Kakamega Governor calls for reinstatement of dismissed JSS teachers

Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to reinstate Junior Secondary School teachers who were dismissed for participating in the recent strike.

Addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Kenya National Union of Teachers Mumias Branch, Barasa urged TSC to rescind the termination of contracts and recall the 742 letters issued to Junior Secondary School teachers, saying the measures taken are excessively punitive and unacceptable.

Of the 10,348 teachers who received show cause letters, 9,606 responded within the stipulated timeframe.

However, 742 teachers failed to report back to work or provide their whereabouts, leading to their contract termination and subsequent replacement.
