BIG scoop: Orlando Pirates snap up Stellenbosch FC man!

Orlando Pirates have acted quickly to bolster their technical staff, ahead of their preseason camp to Spain.

Pirates will return to Spain like they did for 2023/24, and will do so with a new staff member.

Now after enjoying that experience, Pirates look to have stepped it up a notch ahead of the next season. This comes after an announcement from seven-time Europa League winners Sevilla, that they will be hosting the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup winners. According to the LaLiga side, this game will take place in just under a month’s time on the 15th of July.

Pirates add O’Brien to technical staff?

Pirates have now since confirmed the fixture against Sevilla themselves. Furthermore, they have nailed down fixtures against Plymouth Argyle of England and Al Sadd of Qatar. These three opposition are all expected to provide three different tests. Now according to iDiski Times, the Buccaneers management have appointment of someone who will assist in analysing the opponents. This in Stellenbosch FC technical analyst Devon O’Brien.

While talks have been ongoing for a new assistant coach to replace Almenara, the club has already secured Devon O’Brien as a new analyst, according to sources within the club. O’Brien himself confirmed his Stellenbosch exit on social media over the weekend. O’Brien did, indeed post a farewell letter to Stellenbosch on his ‘X’ account. This fuelling the speculation that he is heading to Pirates.

Says farewell to Stellenbosch

“Dear Stellenbosch FC Family,

As I embark on a new chapter in my career, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible experience I’ve had with Stellenbosch FC. It has been an honor and a privilege to be part of such a dedicated and passionate team.” Wrote O’Brien.

This seems to be a shrewd move for Pirates,  as Stellenbosch have become a regular force in the DStv Premiership. Adding O’Brien, who would’ve surely contributed to that, will strengthen the Sea Robbers and weaken Stellies.
