In an interview with Barzan Hassan, she expressed pride in the city’s ability to showcase its talent, according to Kurdistan.

“We are proud of our country and our products, and we are very proud to showcase our talented florists and artists,” Houba said.

The event started in 1971, thanks to Ghent landscape architect Etienne Stautemans, according to Brussels Times.

His initial creation was meant to highlight his floral skills. The tradition proved so popular that it has continued biannually.

PROCESS FOR THE FLOWER CARPET

Each new edition features a unique theme, drawing ever-growing crowds.

Volunteer Paulina Rodriguez was one of many excited participants.

She shared her enthusiasm, describing the meticulous process involved, according to the Bulletin.

“I am here, and I am happy because it is a new experience for me,” Rodriguez said.

“We have to spread the flowers on the ground according to the numbers given to us.

For example, number one is white flowers, and number two is red flowers.”

CULTURAL DIVERSITY

The flower carpet’s design reflects the city’s cultural diversity.

The designer aimed to combine street art with floral arrangements.

“I pay close attention to the different flowers that are beautiful together,” the designer explained. “It’s like the different identities in terms of history and language.

All of which have made this attractive city a special world where different cultures shine.”

A MAJOR CULTURAL EVENT

The Tapis de Fleurs de Bruxelles Association orchestrated this grand event. Over the years, it has evolved into more than just a floral display.

Visitors can enjoy sound and lighting effects, fireworks, jazz concerts, and traditional folk entertainment.

Since 1986, the Flower Carpet has become a major cultural event, attracting both local and international visitors. It has cemented its place in Brussels’ cultural calendar.

A LASTING IMPRESSION

This year’s flower carpet is not only a record-breaker but also a testament to Brussels’ commitment to celebrating its rich heritage and vibrant culture.

The intricate designs and grand scale of the carpet will leave a lasting impression on everyone who sees it.

COLOUR AND JOY

In a city known for its historic architecture and diverse cultural scene, the flower carpet adds a burst of colour and joy.

It reminds us of the beauty that can be achieved when tradition meets creativity.

As Brussels continues to welcome visitors with such spectacular events, the Flower Carpet will remain a highlight, eagerly anticipated and cherished by all.
