Agyemang-Badu calls for overhaul of Ghanaian football after Black Stars defeat to Sudan

Emmanuel Agyemang-BaduFormer Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu didnt mince words as he called for a major overhaul of Ghanaian football following the Black Stars defeat against Sudan on Tuesday.Ghana lost 2-0 to Sudan in Libya, a result that leaves Black Stars on the verge of failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The four-time African championslast failed to qualify for the AFCON tournament in 2004.Speaking to Onua Sports, Agyemang-Badu highlighted the lack of progress across all levels, from the national team to the youth ranks and women’s squads.”The national team is in a ditch; we don’t need to massage anything anymore,” he lamented. “I am tiredpersonally, I am tired. At this point, we have to be humble and go back. Because there is nothing going on from the local league to all the youth and women’s teams.”He expressed frustration over the Black Stars poor performance, pointing to their record of only two wins in the last 12 matches.Agyemang-Badu questioned the fundamental skills on display, describing issues with basics like ball control and decision-making.”Even controlling a ball is hard,” he said. He also criticized the lack of teamwork, passion, and the inability to capitalise on set pieces despite numerous opportunities.In his view, its time for Ghanaian football to return to the basics and adopt a fresh approach, even if it means taking a hiatus from major tournaments to regroup and rebuild.
