PDP Govs call for ceasefire in party crisis, lift suspensions

By John Alechenu

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have directed feuding members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to end their disputes in the interest of the party’s unity and progress.

This directive was contained in a communique issued after a two-day virtual meeting held on October 14 and 15, 2024. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, who is also the Governor of Bauchi State.

The governors, after consultations with the PDP’s Board of Trustees and other party organs, emphasized the importance of unity within the NWC. They called on all members to revert to the status quo and work together, stating that all suspensions issued on officials within the NWC were lifted immediately.

The communique read in part, “The organs of the party were careful in addressing issues, particularly those involving ongoing legal disputes. The NWC should revert to the status quo and remain united in the interest of the party and the nation.”

It further noted that there are no factions within the party, urging party members not to blow minor issues out of proportion. The governors also reminded officeholders of their responsibility to serve and strengthen the party in line with the vision of the founding fathers.

The meeting was attended by several key party governors, including:

H.E. Senator Bala Abdulkarim Mohammed (Bauchi State) – Chairman

H.E. Sir Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers State) – Vice Chairman

H.E. Senator Douye Diri (Bayelsa State)

H.E. Mr. Godwin Obaseki (Edo State)

H.E. Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa State)

H.E. Barrister Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau State)

The communique underscores the PDP’s commitment to resolving internal conflicts and fostering cohesion as it prepares for future political challenges.
