Besiktas terminate Daniel Amartey’s contract amid transfer controversy
Daniel AmarteyGhana defender Daniel Amartey has officially parted ways with Besiktas JK after the club mutually agreed to terminate his contract.In a statement released on Saturday, the Istanbul-based club confirmed: “The contract between our club and professional football player Daniel Amartey has been terminated by mutual agreement.”Amartey, 29, hasn’t featured for Besiktas this season following a tumultuous summer, during which he reportedly clashed with the club.Besiktas spokesman Huseyin Yucel described Amartey as “a strange person,” revealing that despite agreements with a Saudi club and Eyupspor, the centre-back refused to board the plane, leaving the club’s facilities unexpectedly.Amartey reportedly expressed a preference for a move to Germany or England, even though the transfer window had closed.The former Leicester City star joined Besiktas in 2023 on a free transfer, making 27 appearances and scoring one goal.He was a key figure in Leicesters historic Premier League triumph in the 2015/16 season.Amartey, capped 55 times for the Black Stars, last played for Ghana during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.Amartey is now free to join any club.
