Kaizer Chiefs boss complains about referees
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi was unhappy with the officiating after his side salvaged a 2-2 draw against Magesi FC.
Amakhosi drop points against promoted Magesi
Chiefs trailed 2-0 to Magesi before a quick-fire Mduduzi Shabalala brace salvaged a point for the visiting Glamour Boys. Amakhosi boss Nabi lamented the official’s failure to award his side a spot-kick when Wandile Duba appeared to be fouled in the box. Via The Citizen:
“Obviously we are very disappointed, but we have to talk about how the officials are officiating the game,” Nabi told SuperSport TV after the match.
“We believe it is more than time that VAR comes into this beautiful league. We strongly believe it was a penalty on Duba. Everyone has seen the images.
“The second goal they scored, it was a free kick for us, but it becomes a free kick for them and gives them their second goal.”
“I don’t want to put pressure on the referees, they are human and they make mistakes. But I urge the body of the league to bring in VAR to help the referees. We feel we are being punished in every game.”
Nabi blamed wastefulness
Nabi shifted his attention from the officials to his side’s profligacy in front of goal. Chiefs now have seven points after their first five games of the season and are already 11 points adrift of leaders Pirates.
“Our issues are obvious. Every game we have the most possession and we just need to convert that into scoring goals. We believe in future with that possession if our players can score we will improve. But we are so disappointed because today we lost three points.”
Carling Knockout on the horizon
Kaizer Chiefs’ reward for thumping SuperSport 4-0 in the Carling Knockout is a quarter-final clash with the mighty Mamelodi Sundowns. This showdown takes place at FNB Stadium on Saturday 02 November at 18:00. Don’t miss it! Meanwhile, Richards Bay met Cape Town City earlier that day at the King Zwelithini. On Sunday, TS Galaxy hosts Orlando Pirates’ conquerers Magesi at Mbombela. Marumo Gallants meet holders Stellenbosch in the late game.
Kaizer Chiefs vs Sundowns H2H isn’t looking good, but…
Amakhosi’s recent results against the Brazilians don’t paint the prettiest picture. A controversial 2-1 win for Masandawana extended their unbeaten streak against Chiefs to nine matches across all competitions. You have to go back to April 2021 for Chiefs’ last win over Sundowns in any competition. Ironically, Uruguayan Gaston Sirino was a goal-scorer for Sundowns on that afternoon. When the sides meet again, can he stick the knife into his former employers?
Have Chiefs already dropped too many points to be considered title contenders?
