How Police Shot Guard Dead at Wakiso Fuel Station

More details have emerged on the circumstances under which a security guard was shot dead by armed police on Sunday in Wakiso district. 

The shocking incident took place at about 9:00am at AS Energy Petrol station at Kijabijjo village Kira Municipality Wakiso district. 

It is alleged that Police received information of a possible armed robbery at  AS Petrol station being carried out by their own security guard of Saracen security company.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said, “Our officers responded at the scene only for the armed security guard to shoot at Police Constable Sande Emmanuel while he tried to disarm him.”

“Other responding officers would later  retaliate by shooting, putting the guard out of action.”

Eyewitnesses saw police fire at the security guard identified as Paul Lotyang.

Geoffrey Wamala, a boda boda cyclist said he heard heavy gunfire at the fuel station.

“It was a terrible spectacle,” said Wamala. 

“The police opened fire and quickly put the guard out of action.” 

 Owoyesigyire said Lotyang’s body was later conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago while PC Sande was rushed to Mulago hospital where he is currently admitted with serious injuries.  

“Different police teams responded at the scene and exhibits were recovered, they have been submitted for analysis,” he added.

“We have also established through various statements that Lotyang had put everyone at gunpoint demanding the manager to avail him the key to the safe where money is kept.”
