Extending GFA’s presidency limit needless – Yahaya Mohammed

Former Aduana Stars striker Yahaya Mohammed has voiced his opposition to a potential extension of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency term limit. In recent weeks, reports indicate that the GFA’s statutes review committee has suggested to the Executive Council an extension of the GFA presidents term of office which currently limits presidents to two terms in office. The proposal has sparked criticism, with Mohammed speaking to Asempa FM in an interview kicked against the move.”At this moment, extending the term limit of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency is not needed. I believe that if this must be done, it is the work you the president have done and for me, the club administrators must come out and speak because, at this moment, that is not what is needed.”He added that he appreciates that others, such as Kudjoe Fianoo, have publicly opposed the proposal and hopes more voices will join in.”I know Kudjoe Fianoo has spoken against it and I expect others to also come out to speak against it because it is not needed at the moment,” he added.Meanwhile, former GFA chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has also pledged to resist any attempt to extend the GFA presidency term limit.I wont allow anyone to tinker with the GFA statute after the sacrifices I made to ensure the position is based on merit through elections, he told Graphic Sports.Positions corrupt people in this country, and when you extend the term, the corruption becomes even worse.I was the architect of the two-term limit for the FA presidency, and I will not allow anyone to topple the statute to serve their personal agenda, he stated firmly. If they try to change the tenure, Ill fight it with all my strength. It was my recommendation that compelled the FA to adopt this policy, he added.
