Accra Sports Stadium closure forces Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions, and Dreams FC to find new venues
The recent closure of the Accra Sports Stadium for maintenance work has left Ghana Premier League clubs Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions, and Dreams FC scrambling to find alternative home venues for their upcoming matches. The stadium, which has been shut down as the National Sports Authority races to get it ready for Ghana’s potential Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, has affected these clubs’ plans.Hearts of Oak, traditionally based at the Accra Sports Stadium, are now considering moving their home games to either the WAFA Park in Sogakope or the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon. Similarly, Accra Lions are expected to follow suit and make use of the University of Ghana Stadium.Meanwhile, Dreams FC, with their next fixture just days away, are undecided on their next venue and are exploring all available options for their top-flight matches. This disruption follows the recent ban of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, which forced Asante Kotoko to shift their home matches to the Lenclay Stadium in Obuasi. The ban was imposed due to technical infractions, including the poor condition of the playing pitch.
