Your first time moving out essentials’ checklist

Not sure where to start when embarking on your move-out experience? Here is a checklist for you.

Moving out and heading out on your own for the first time can be such an exhilarating experience. That feeling when you are out in your own space for the first time without the constraints of parents, siblings or roommates… There is nothing like it.

So you’ve signed the lease, paid the rent plus deposit but what exactly are you putting in this new home? Acquiring all the things you need for your first home is an expensive undertaking, so you need to go into it with a plan. Write down a checklist, spend wisely, and stick to immediate needs.

Here’s a check list that should help you get started:

Bedroom

  • Bed
  • Mattress,
  • Bed linen (sheets and blankets)
  • Pillows
  • Window dressing (curtains and sheers)
  • Hangers
  • Iron box
  • Mirror

Kitchen

  • Pots and pans
  • Crockery (plates, bowls and cups)
  • Cutlery (spoons, forks and knives)
  • Cooking sticks (mwikos)
  • Serving spoons
  • Chopping board
  • Appliances such as fridge, microwave and cooker
  • Tupperware/storage containers
  • Dust bin

Living room

  • Couch
  • Coffee table
  • Window dressing (curtains and sheers)

Bathroom

  • Soap
  • Tissue paper
  • Bath towels
  • Toothbrush holder
  • Toilet brush
  • Loofah
  • Shower curtain if necessary

Do not forget the cleaning supplies, bulbs, extension cables, scissors, batteries, matchboxes, mops, brooms, buckets and candles.
