Young Apostles coach Asare Bediako faces GFA misconduct charge over referee comments

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has initiated disciplinary action against Joseph Asare Bediako, Head Coach of Young Apostles, following his controversial post-match comments about officiating in his teams recent Ghana Premier League clash against Legon Cities FC. The GFA alleges that coach Asares statements, made after Young Apostles 2-0 loss, violated Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019, by bringing the game into disrepute. The charge stems from Asares post-match remarks, in which he expressed frustration with certain decisions made by the referees, suggesting that they had a demoralizing effect on his players.Legon Cities secured a 2-0 victory over Young Apostles during their Monday night encounter, a result that appears to have left Asare openly critical of the officiating. In a notice, the GFA stated, “It is alleged that his post-match commentary on the match officials of the game constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.”The coach now has until Friday, November 8, to formally respond to the charges. This case underscores the GFAs commitment to maintaining respect for match officials and preserving the integrity of Ghanaian football. While coaches and players are encouraged to express themselves, the association’s rules require that their comments remain within professional boundaries.
