Wild! Milli Vanilli in SA, sing ‘Menendez’ soundtrack [video]

South Africans were left scratching their heads after one-half of the 80s pop duo Milli Vanilli recently performed in Pretoria. And much of the confusion – and irony – had to do with the timing of the group’s hit song Girl I’m Gonna Miss You, which has recently featured on the Netflix documentary Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

The true-crime series – created by Ryan Murphy, who also produced the Jeffrey Dahmer doccie – has been streamed millions of times since its release last week.

Monster tells the gruesome and disturbing story of how the siblings murdered their wealthy parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, in 1996. It also recounts the televised trial and how the brothers were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

MILLI VANILLI PERFORMS IN PRETORIA

Over the weekend, Fab Morvan, one-half of the German pop duo Milli Vanilli, performed in Pretoria at the SunBet Arena.

The concert, titled Turn Back The Time, featured nostalgic performers, including the VengaBoys and No Mercy.

Fab – whose bandmate Rob Pilatus died in 1998 from an alleged drug overdose – posted about his  SA concert on his Instagram account.

Captioning a clip of his time in the country, Fab shared: “My trip to Pretoria was a lot of fun. We can guarantee you a great trip down memory lane. Peace, one love.”

Milli Vanilli was known for their lip-syncing scandal and their hit songs,  Blame It on the Rain, Girl You Know It’s True, and Girl, I’m Gonna To Miss You.

The songs recently featured on the Netflix docuseries Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

SOUTH AFRICANS BAFFLED BY PERFORMANCE OF ‘MENENDEZ’ SONGS

On social media, South Africans were baffled to see Fab of Milli Vanilli sing the “soundtrack” of the Netflix series about the Menendez brothers.

On TikToker – @priyanka_thotha – posted:  “When you just watch Monsters and Milli Vanilli comes to South Africa.

In the clip, Fab Morvan was seen singing Girl, I’m Gonna Miss You.

“This was so crazy for me,” she added.

CATALOGUE STREAMS SPIKE AFTER NETFLIX DOCCIE

Meanwhile, Billboard reveals that Milli Vanilli’s catalogue has spiked in streams following the release of the Menendez Story.

The group recorded three studio albums and a handful of singles in the late 1980s and early 1990s and was planning a career comeback, which was sadly halted by Rob Pilatus’s death in 1998.

According to US Weekly, Lyle Menendez did, in fact, request that the group’s hit song, “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You,” be played at his parents’ funeral.

In a clip of the docuseries, Lyle said to funeralgoers: “For my final words to you, I will leave this to two poets, who are much better at this than I.

“In their words, ‘Girl, I’m going to miss you.’”
