Why Manqoba Mngqithi to Kaizer Chiefs might not happen

Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Manqoba Mngqithi apparently does not meet Kaizer Chiefs’ requirement to be head coach of the club.

Amakhosi have been searching for a coach since they parted ways with Molefi Ntseki last year in October. Mngqithi has been linked to a move to Naturena in recent months but both parties are yet to comment on the matter. Chiefs currently have Cavin Johnson standing in as interim coach but they are in need of an experienced coach.

According to FARPost, Kaizer Chiefs have against pursuing Manqoba Mngqithi. Apparently the 52-year-old coach does not fit into their structure and the club are looking elsewhere.

“While he is a well-respected coach, there’s a feeling that he may not be the best match for the club’s current requirements. It seems they’re considering other coaches who might be a closer fit for their vision,” the publication reported.

Manqoba Mngqithi to Kaizer Chiefs looking less likely

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Downs senior coach’s contract was ending in June. According to iDiskiTimes, the 52-year-old was in talks with Sundowns regarding his contract. Should Manqoba Mngqithi extend his stay, his potential move to Kaizer Chiefs might be spoilt if Amakhosi fail to secure their ‘desired’ coach.

“[Yes] we’re in discussions with Mamelodi Sundowns,” Mngqithi’s agent, Mike Makaab, told iDiski Times.

“I’m hoping that in a couple of weeks, a finality will happen, one way or another. I think for both parties, it is important the matter is brought a closure. He’s [happy to continue at Sundowns] very much so.”

Mnggithi has been with Sundowns for over a decade

Manqoba Mngqithi has coached at Golden Arrows and AmaZulu, him moving to Kaizer Chiefs could be a great career move for the KZN-born mentor.

With Steve Komphela leaving Downs for Swallows earlier this season, many expected the ex-Arrows coach to jump ship.
