Black Friday has become one of the biggest shopping days on the calendar in South Africa with a growing list of local retailers offering reduced prices on a range of products.
This year Black Friday is set to fall on 25 November, with a number of shops and retailers moving back to the ‘old’ format of one-day deals after extending specials to account for more controlled foot traffic during the Covid-19 pandemic in recent years.
Black Friday is a colloquial term for the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States.
It traditionally marks the start of the Christmas shopping season with any stores offer highly promoted sales at discounted prices and often open early, sometimes as early as midnight.
According to BusinessTech, as with previous years, a number of major brands will participate in the anticipated sales rush – as well as smaller retailers also looking to get their slice of shoppers’ cash.
Online retailers are also expected to offer a number of specials on ‘Cyber Monday’, which falls on 28 November this year.
