Mamelodi Sundowns have dropped a massive surprise last weekend. Miguel Cardoso replaced Manqoba Mngqithi as the new head coach.

Mngqithi’s Sundowns were looking fine at the summit of the Betway Premiership with seven wins out of eight, but the CAF Champions League start was not bright. Sundowns delivered two draws against Union Maniema and AS FAR, and that was the fatal blow for Mnqithi, including the Carling Knockout final loss to Magesi FC.
“Mamelodi Sundowns today announced the appointment of Miguel De Azevedo Cardoso as the new Head Coach of the Club with immediate effect,” the club said on their website.
The 52-year-old Portuguese coach has three trophies:
- Tunisian League Title with Esperance
- Ukranian League Title with Shakhtar Donetsk
- Ukranian League Cup.
CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AGAINST RAJA CASABLANCA
In what will be a testing debut game for coach Cardoso, Moroccan giants Raja are in Tshwane. The game will kick off at 15:00 from the Loftus Versfeld. Sundowns are expected to bag three points against a Raja that is 12th in Morocco’s Botola Pro League, and in last place in Group B.
A win for Sundowns will propel Bafana ba style to second place and five points equal with leaders AS FAR.
