What is Mamelodi Sundowns’ 24-hour rule?

Erstwhile Mamelodi Sundowns star Lyle Lakay lifts the lid on the club’s 24-hour rule that the defending PSL champions have lived and thrived by in recent times.

Lakay says that it is something that is ingrained into the fabric of Mamelodi Sundowns.

It is all about processing and moving on.

The 24-hour rule pertains to players celebrating a victory or even mourning a defeat or dropped points.

Basically, the rule of thumb at Sundowns is that in the wake of a victory players can celebrate for 24 hours, and in defeat, they can sulk for the same period of time.

Sundowns have a system of processing and moving on according to Lakay.

“We are professionals, we were disappointed with our previous result and we have this 24-hour (rule) whereby if you win you get to celebrate for 24 hours, if you lose you can be disappointed for 24 hours but after that it’s back to work and focusing on the next game,” Lakay said according to Soccer Laduma

Lekay says this Sundowns team perform best when they are under pressure, and has backed his comrades to get it done.

He also said: “I would say we are over the previous game and us being professionals we have to focus on the next assignment

“We are a team that performs best under pressure, not that we always have to put ourselves in this situation but we thrive under pressure, we are motivated and we are going out there for the three points.”
