West Ham star Michail Antonio reveals passport nightmare in Ghana
West Ham striker Michail Antonio has shared the details of a passport issue that prevented him from joining the Jamaica national team during the international break.Antonio, who had visited his academy in Ghana, planned to travel to London before flying to meet the Jamaican squad for their match against the USA.However, he lost his British passport and had to use his Jamaican documents to travel to Africa.The striker was then unable to return to the UK because Jamaican passport holders require a visa for entry.Antonio explained, “I got stuck in Ghana. I got an emergency passport just to get back to the UK. Then I wasnt able to sort out a visa to fly to America because I couldnt get a visa on my Jamaican passport.”The 21-cap Jamaican international, who has scored five goals for his country, has been a key player for West Ham, starting nine of their 11 Premier League games this season. His only goal of the current campaign came in a 4-1 victory over Ipswich.Antonio spent a couple of days in Ghana, and explained his decision to invest in the country’s football. He said,Ive come here to do my work. Weve started an academy here in Kumasi, Bompata, he told the media. “We know about all the talent here; weve seen Mo [Kudus] is at the club (West Ham) right now. We just want to give the boys over here the opportunity to break through to the Premier League.”
