We‘re committed to fair wages, decent work – Employment Minister

The Minister of Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has inaugurated a new office complex for the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).

The four-storey building has 200-seat auditorium, a board meeting room, and training facilities with other amenities including a kitchen, a boardroom, and parking space for vehicles.

The Minister highlighted the government’s dedication to fair wages and decent work for all, stressing that the new facility would enhance the Commission’s service delivery.

“The government is committed to creating an enabling environment for workers to thrive and improve productivity,” he said.

Mr Baffour Awuah explained that the building was part of President Akufo-Addo’s vision to provide the Commission with a proper office space to better serve the public.

He urged workers to deliver excellent services that reflect the state’s investment in the project.

“You can have the best of office buildings, but if the service is poor, it means nothing. I want to entreat staff to justify why the state invested in the facility,” he said.

He also advised management to ensure proper maintenance of the building by allocating resources for its upkeep.

The Minister announced that the government had provided 16 pickup vehicles to the Labour Department and commissioned 16 Public Employment Centres to improve operations.

He further revealed that a new office building for the Ministry had been completed near the Accra Sports Stadium.

Reverend Richmond Okrah, the company’s contractor, noted that the project took nearly two years to complete and was delivered on schedule.

The Chief Executive of the FWSC, Mr Benjamin Arthur, expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo, the Ministry of Employment, and the Ministry of Finance for supporting the project.

“This new office complex is a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting fair wages and salaries in Ghana, we are grateful for this investment, which will enable us to better serve our stakeholders,” he said.

Mr Arthur also assured the public that the building would be used responsibly, “We know other agencies under the Ministry have not been fortunate to get such infrastructure, and we will protect and use it for the benefit of all,” he said.
