Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

  1. A Yellow (Level 2) warning for severe thunderstorms with strong winds, large amounts of small hail and heavy downpours that could lead to localized damages to formal and informal structures, temporary infrastructure and traffic disruptions over the extreme south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the northern interior of the Eastern Cape, the southern Free State as well as the south-eastern parts of the Northern Cape.
  2. A Yellow (Level 2) for rainfall resulting in flooding of informal settlements and roads over western half of North West, the extreme north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape and north-eastern parts of the Free State.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

  1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Witzenberg and Matzikama municipalities of the Western Cape.

Gauteng:

Temperature: Cloudy in the morning, otherwise partly and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south-west.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east with morning fog along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm but hot in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy in the morning with fog patches along the southern escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the extreme east.

Free State:

Temperature:

Cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers,
but isolated in the extreme east.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Morning fog patches along the coast where it will be cool, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the east.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Morning fog patches along the west coast, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in places over the interior. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected over the central and eastern parts.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate north-westerly along the west coast, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western halfTemperature: Light rain along the coast and adjacent area in the morning where it will be warm, otherwise cloudy and hot with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The Western Half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly

The Eastern halfTemperature: Light rain along the coast and adjacent area in the morning where it will be warm, otherwise cloudy and hot with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-easterly.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south but scattered in the extreme south-west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to northeasterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.
