We should look forward, not backward â Ghana legend Abedi Pele insists after 2025 AFCON setback
Abedi PeleGhanaian football icon Abedi Ayew Pele has called for a forward-thinking approach in the wake of the Black Stars failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).Ghanas absence from the tournament has sparked intense debate among fans and stakeholders, with some advocating for the dismissal of head coach Otto Addo and a revamp of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) leadership.Others suggest revisiting strategies from the teams past glory days to regain success.The three-time African Footballer of the Year, however, believes that looking back is not the solution.Speaking to Panafricafootball, he emphasised the importance of focusing on the future and working diligently to rebuild the Black Stars.I think time changes in all and this, we are talking about three decades. So whatever it is, we shouldnt look back; we should just look forward and work hard and achieve whatever we want to achieve, Abedi Pele said.He added, What it takes to be a great football team or a great football nation is to work hard and put your house into order to make sure that you get results. That is all that it takes to be a good team all over the world.The Ghana FA is set to hold discussions with head coach Otto Addo on November 27 to evaluate the teams performance during the qualifiers.The outcome of this meeting is expected to shape the future of the Black Stars as the nation works to regain its competitive edge in African football.
