WATCH: Springboks’ most audacious trick play yet

Throughout the Rugby Championship, the Springboks continued to innovate and experiment with various elements of their game and squad selection.

There has also been a clear attacking evolution under the guidance of New Zealand coach Tony Brown, while some bold tactics have also been evident in other aspects of the Springboks’ game.

At lineout time there have been instance of wing Cheslin Kolbe taking the odd throw-in, while there have been a variety of different set plays that have deviated from the expected maul routine.

On Saturday, though, we may have seen the Springboks’ most audacious trick play to date. During an all-important 5m lineout early on, Eben Etzebeth took a front ball, and then popped the ball behind him with a no-look transfer to Pieter-Steph du Toit.

The sudden change in position caught Argentina by surprise and they quickly sacked the maul illegally.

The Springboks will now enjoy a well-deserved rest before gathering for a one-week training camp in Jersey – one of the largest of the Channel Islands between England and France.

The plan is that this will allow them to acclimatise to the conditions, while at the same time focussing on their conditioning and preparation for the November tour, when they will face Scotland, England and Wales.

HERE IS A REMINDER OF THE SPRINGBOKS’ REMAINING FIXTURES IN 2024

Sunday, 10 November: Scotland vs SA (Murrayfield, Edinburgh)
Saturday, 16 November: England vs SA (Twickenham, London)
Saturday, 23 November: Wales vs SA (Principality Stadium, Cardiff

DO YOU THINK THE BOKS WILL GO UNDEFEATED ON THE END-OF-YEAR-TOUR?
