MIA LE ROUX: ‘I COULDN’T FOLLOW’

In a video shared by TikTok user @queenlyview, Mia le Roux says she couldn’t keep up with the music and dance routines at Miss Universe competition.

“I’m supposed to be able to follow music, which I can’t do it. Like other people who have cochlear implants, who dance they’ve had practice, they’ve learned a different way to follow,” she said.

“When I tried to practice with all the girls, everyone was very loud and talking and I couldn’t follow. It was a lot. I felt inadequate,” says Le Roux in the video.

The video follows Miss SA’s confirmation that Le Roux has withdrawn from the Miss Universe competition in Mexico due to health concerns.

SOUTH AFRICANS REACT TO MISS SA’S WITHDRAWAL

@by_greatest: “I think she was not catered for as she was supposed to be. I think she saw to finish for herself. I don’t think girls in pageant are treated well.”

@NellyM_grandkid: “Meaning Miss SA organisers didn’t send her with an interpreter, this is sad.”

@bigoligarch1: “This is very sad let’s sign a petition for the whole show to be cancel. Amandla.”

@NtombikayiseBa6: “She did say that she was struggling to hear instructions and music which resulted in her making mistakes during rehearsals. I believe there’s more this whole thing than meets the eye.”

@kay_living_: “My girl was excluded. It’s okay!”

@NtshepyK: “I think she got overwhelmed most of the times she wasn’t appearing. My heart is bleeding for her.”

@Nelisiwe94: “They were supposed to send her with her parents to Mexico not alone with strangers. Mia might be an adult but people with disabilities are vulnerable and need extra support all the time. They can put on the brave face, but a small thing affects them immensely. In SA, she was surrounded by everyone who understood her now in Mexico is surrounded by strangers.”

@T_Daniel__: “Bathong, I am living with similar disability as hers, lol should I take my parents to work? FYI, with this disability it’s easy to tell people simple how to talk to you, like please look at me when you speak to me. Also, phones have live captions apps one can use.”
