Watch: Gen Muntu Furious as Cops Block Access to Kasese Campaign Venue
Presidential candidate Gen Mugisha Muntu nearly lost his cool this Friday after he was blocking from accessing his campaign venue today.
Muntu intended to hold a rally in Bwera, Kasese District only for his convoy to be blocked by police personnel.
“Why are you doing this?” charged Muntu before warning the police of serious consequences if they don’t uphold the rule of law.
Muntu rolled his eyes as the area police commander remained unshaken.
Muntu’s supporters wondered why police continued to disrupt their campaign meetings.
Police accuse candidates of flouting COVID-19 prevention guidelines including holding illegal assemblies especially in urban areas.
The Electoral Commission on Thursday called on the Uganda Police Force to stop blocking presidential candidates from accessing scheduled venues to conduct their respective campaign meetings.
“… presidential candidates have a right to move and access the designated campaign venues, and hold their campaign meetings in compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines as issued by the Electoral Commission,” said EC boss Justice Simon Byabakama in a letter to police Chief Okoth Ochola.

“Uganda Police Force is required to ensure that this electoral activity takes place in a peaceful manner and in accordance with the law and guidelines. This is therefore to urge you to facilitate the smooth actualization of this electoral activity and ensure that there is no disruption and/ or such blocking of the harmonized campaign programme,” said Byabakama.
Muntu promised to deliver a leadership of integrity when elected president.
The former army commander said he could be trusted by the electorate due to his stainless public service record.
“I’ll not be intoxicated by power,” said Muntu who was flanked by former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kiiza.
“By the grace of God, we will fight and rescue this country,” said Muntu who fought in the NRA war that brought President Museveni to power in 1986.
“Trust us to deliver on our promise of liberation. Look at the fertile soils, rivers and good climate. There is no reason as to why the people of Kasese should be stuck in poverty,” he emphasized.
