Museveni was supposed to hold the address last Sunday, but decided to call it off for unknown reasons.

His critiques quickly rushed to claim that the president wanted to avoid being overshadowed by his top presidential contender Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) who was also addressing his online supporters at the same time.

Both candidates boast of a vast social media following.

Now, just hours after State House announced Museveni’s address, Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform came out to announce that their candidate will hold his own address around the same time.

“Our President Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert will address the nation about the state of our campaigns and other matters of National importance today … His communication will be relayed on all our social media platforms,” NUP trumpeted.

Bobi Wine’s address, they said will be at 7:45.

President Museveni’s national address has caused controversy among the media circles amid complaints from some media owners that he might use the platform to hold his own campaigns.

Early this week, the media owners under the National Association of Broadcasters complained to the Uganda Communications Commission on why thy they should be compelled to air this address during prime time.

According to the association chairman Kin Kariisa Museveni’s address could hurt the media houses financially since it airs at 7pm when they make most money from commercials.
