VIDEO: 3 Street Kids Killed in Kamwokya Car Crash
Police have spoken out on the fatal accident in which three people died at Kayunga Road Junction along Acacia Avenue in Kamwokya, Kampala.
The law enforcement body said the incident, which involved multiple vehicles, occurred at around 1:26 a.m.
“A black Mercedes-Benz with registration number UBL 189R, driven by Mr. Kimera Faziru of Buwate, was traveling at high speed from the Acacia side,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.
“Unfortunately, Mr. Faziru lost control of the vehicle upon reaching the Kayunga junction,” said Owoyesigyire, adding, “The vehicle collided with the road barriers, striking three street children who had sought shelter there.”
Owoyesigyire said the Mercedes-Benz “then continued its trajectory and collided with a white Toyota Mark X, registration number UBF 788K, which was approaching from the Mulago side.”
Police are yet to identify the deceased kids.
A CCTV video that has leaked to WhatsApp shows the racing car ramming into the barriers at Kayunga Junction.
The injured victims were immediately rushed to Mulago Hospital, where two of the pedestrians succumbed to their injuries.

The police said all the drivers involved in the accident were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Both vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded at Kira Road Police Station pending further inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles.
It remains unclear why Kimera was overspeeding as he approached the Kayunga junction.

The police said they remained committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this accident.
“We urge all road users to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits and traffic regulations,” said Owoyesigyire.
“Safety on our roads is of paramount importance, and we must all play our part in ensuring a secure environment for everyone,” he added.
