VAR will boost refereeing credibility in Ghana Premier League – Alex Kotey
Alex Quartey, the Referees Manager for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and head of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) project, has said that implementing VAR will greatly enhance the integrity of officiating in the Ghana Premier League.Quarteys comments come in the wake of several controversial refereeing decisions that have left fans dissatisfied with officiating in the league.Recently, FIFA held an important meeting with GFA representatives and other stakeholders to discuss the implementation of VAR in Ghanas domestic leagues. This two-day meeting, attended by FIFAs full VAR project team, marked the first phase of FIFAs Implementation Assessment Approval Program (IAAP), a crucial step for any Member Association looking to adopt VAR.In an interview with Citi Sports following the event, Quartey provided insights into the discussions with VAR officials.”The first benefit is that, it would bring some credibility to the league, high-level of credibility.”A typical example is the AFCON 2024 that we just witnessed and we all saw that it was a success, because of the VAR.”So yes, credibility in our game will be very high if we are able to implement.”
