Vandals plunge part of Abuja into darkness

Vandals of 330/132kV Gwagwalada /Kukwaba line that wheels power to 2×60MVA Kukwaba injection substation in Abuja on Sunday disrupted supply to some areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT ).

According to to Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), the act affected power supply to “Kaura District, Galadimawa, Lokogoma, Suncity, Moccido Housing estate, Games Village, Eyes Center Hospital, National Stadium; Feeds Milipat Filling Station, part of Indoor Stadium, Kuchingoro, Karamajigi, King Park Estate, Royal Ancor Estate, DSS Quarters, Wilbahi Estate, Wuye, Utako and environs.”

Its General Manager, Corporate Communications, Mr. Oyebode Fadipe, disclosed this in a message of apology to the affected customers.

The message reads: “Dear customers, Customers living in the underlisted locations are hereby informed that as a result of the activities of vandals on the 330/132kV Gwagwalada/Kukwaba line that transports power to the 2 x 60MVA Kukwaba injection substation, power supply to the underlisted areas has been disrupted. The affected areas are:

“While the liveline maintenance crew of the TCN is already working on the vandalised section of the 330kV/132kV line, efforts are also on to backfeed our customers from Apo.

“We, therefore, apologise to our beloved customers for this disruption and do promise that electricity supply will be restored immediately the fault is cleared.”
