UPL Champions Vipers Pick Rare Away Win at Onduparaka
Onduparaka 0-2 Vipers SC
Uganda Premier League champions – awaiting declaration Vipers Sports Club kick-started title celebrations in style with an away win at Onduparaka on Tuesday in Arua.
A goal in either half by Congolese turned Central African Republic center forward Ceasar Manzoki and Milton Karisa guided the Venoms to their 21st win and ending Ondu’s six match unbeaten run.
The win also ensured the Venoms complete a rare double over the Caterpillars thanks to a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
To take his tally to 17 goals atop the scorers’ chart, Manzoki netted from a neat header after jumping lowly to connect defender-turned right back Hilary Mukundane’s well weighed delivery from the right.
Striker Yunus Sentamu had initially rattled the woodwork before Karisa turned the rebound into an assist for the Venoms to celebrate in front of a fully packed Greenlight stadium.
Three minutes into restart, Karisa doubled the advantage with a stunning low drive on the far post.
The prodigal son played a one-two with Manzoki before Karisa unleashed a fierce low drive beyond the stretch of returning goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga for Vipers’ second.
Even when Nathan Oloro, James Jarieko and Gabriel Matata were introduced, the trio could not create any magic to rescue the hosts from succumbing to their 9th defeat of the 2021/22 season.
Onduparaka has managed nine wins and nine draws from 27 games sitting 8th on the log with 34 points. They will play their next game against Arua Hill in the Westnile derby on Friday.
Vipers’ next assignment is another visit to record champions Sports Club Villa at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Saturday.
