UPL: Busoga Denies Wasteful Bright Stars
Soltilo Bright Stars 1-1 Busoga United
Arua Hill SC 1-1 Gaddafi
Anwar Ntege’s header cancelled out Joseph Janjali as Busoga United derailed Soltilo Bright Stars’ survival chances in a 1-all stalemate at Kavumba recreation center during Wednesday’s early kick-off.
Bright Stars were the better side and held a lion’s share of ball possession but were let down with a blunt attacking line that wasted countless clear cut chances.
The hosts started brightly and assumed the driving seat after 22 minutes when Ibrahim Kasinde teed up Janjali in the box for the latter to calmly control and slot home past static custodian Andrew Ssekandi.
Moments later, Bright Stars had a chance to double the advantage but Ibrahim Kasinde headed Nelson Senkatuka’s well delivered in-swinger across the goal mouth for the visitors’ goal kick.
Again, Janjali picked-up skipper Senkatuka who squandered from close range. The forward received and controlled with no marker but instead shot in the chest of Ssekandi, missing a chance to take his tally to seven goals.
In the 37th minute, Ntege drew matters level with an imaginable wild header to score his 8th goal of the season. He met Derrick Basoga’s delivery down the left before his header beat custodian Simon Tamale, razed off the woodwork and went in.
At the stroke of halftime, Busoga United felt hard done after center referee Rajab Bakasambe declined pointing to the spot after Derrick Ngobi’s hand ball in the penalty area.
10 minutes into restart, Hassan Kintu made a boarder-line clearance to deny Kasinde’s goal bound effort while Derrick Basoga headed away Janjali’s teasing attempt.
As pressure mounted on either side, Bright Stars had a penalty appeal turned down by Bakasambe while Janjali and Senkatuka failed to connect their attempts before the visitors held on for a priceless point.
With the draw, Bright Stars ascended to 21 points with a game in hand but still stuck in the 14th position while Busoga United remained 11th on 26 points after 24 games.
