The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) has refuted the alleged arrest of Chief of Logistics and Engineering, Brig. Charles Bakahumura.
The army described the reports as ‘fake news’.
Officials had earlier revealed that Bakahumura was being held as part of investigations over alleged theft of fuel meant for UPDF operations.
The logistics department is said to be a subject of investigation over acts of corruption.
The reports indicated that Bakahumura was picked by the officers from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence for grilling.
When contacted on phone, the UPDF and Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs Spokesman, Brig. Felix Kulaigye said he was not aware of the development.
“I don’t know about any arrest,” said Kulaigye.
Bakahumura later said on Twitter that he was not under arrest.
“This is not true and I don’t know the intentions of the people who are writing and spreading such falsehoods. I guess it out of malice,” said Bakahumura.
