UNN don, Verlumun, ranks among top 2% of scientists globally

A scholar in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Nigeria, Dr Gever Verlumun, has made the list of the top 2% of scientists in the world for 2024. Stanford University, the United States of America, and Elsevier compiled the list.

It shows the top 2% of scientists worldwide; extracts for scientists from any country can be made from the global list.

The Stanford University/Elsevier list shows scientists who have had the biggest impact in their fields. Among other criteria, it looks at things like how often other scientists mention their works. It should be noted that the prestigious American University of Stanford annually establishes the ranking of the most influential researchers in the world among more than 8 million researchers.

From the extracted data for Nigerian scientists, 233 scholars from Nigeria made the list, and Dr  Verlumun appeared as number 171. He is credited with 68 publications in Scopus and ranked number 300,763 in the world.  The database also ranked Dr Verlumun 126 out of 14 509 in the subfield of social sciences. A further analysis of the list shows that in Nigeria, Nathaniel Solomon of the University of Lagos from the field of Environmental Sciences is placed as number one. Recall that Dr Verlumun is the founder of a Scopus Indexed journal, the Ianna Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies. The journal is ranked number one among the 23 Nigerian journals in Scimago and number 46 among 171 multidisciplinary journals in the world.
