Unknown Gunmen Kill Gold Dealer in Kassanda

Locals of Kanyogoga village in Kassanda district were Thursday evening left in shock after unknown gunmen opened fire at a local gold dealer, killing him instantly.

Police says the murder and robbery incident happened at about 600pm in Biwalwe village in Bukuya town council.

The victim has been identified as Magala Erias alias Mangele, 36, a gold dealer, and resident of Lugingi village in Kijuna sub county.

According to police, the deceased was coming from Kanyogoga at the gold mine of a one Musa Mubiru, where he has been reportedly buying gold.

From Kanyogoga village, it is said the deceased drove towards his home in Lugingi village and when he reached the swamp along Kanyogoga – Bukuya road, he met unknown assailants who shot him dead.

He was driving his Toyota Premio number UBF 575Q.

The regional spokesperson ASP Racheal Kawala said police immediately responded the distress call about the incident and documented the scene of crime.

“Exhibits of cartridge casings have been recovered at the scene and will submitted for further analysis. Body has been taken to be taken to Mityana hospital mortuary for postmortem.” she said.

Although police are probing murder and aggravated robbery, details of what was stolen from the deceased dealer remains scanty as police said that they are yet to establish it.
