United Rugby Championship LIVE scores: Ulster vs Sharks

The Sharks are in Belfast hunting a crucial win on the road which could bag them second place on the overall log and the South African shield.

Only Munster and Leinster are ahead of the Sharks and the Irish powerhouses face each other on Saturday.

A loss to Ulster would leave the Sharks vulnerable to dropping out of the top four.

Fifth-placed Ulster trail the Sharks, in third, by just a point heading into Round 18.

Both teams are firmly in the hunt for a second-placed finish, which would earn a home semi-final should they get there.

This match will have huge ramifications for both sides even if the losers suffer slighter blows than elimination.

“It’s a very important game this weekend,” said Ulster coach Dan McFarland.

“We have both qualified for the URC quarter-finals and for Europe. The prize this Friday is a home quarter-final in front of our own fans.”

Sharks coach Sean Everitt said: “We’re currently sitting on top of the South African Shield and third on the log, so there is everything to play for.

“We know what a huge challenge it is to go to Belfast to play at Kingspan but we do believe we have the ability and the players, as well as the coaching team, to go over there and do the job.

“It would be really good for us if we were able to come home and play in front of our fans at Hollywoodbets Kings Park in a quarter and semi-final.”

Ulster have won all five previous home games they have played against South African opposition.

Their 16-10 victory at Edinburgh in Round 17 ended a three-game losing run in the competition.

The Sharks have won their last two fixtures against Irish opposition but lost on their only previous trip to Ireland – at Munster in September.
