United Rugby Championship: Brave Lions lose to Leinster

Leinster vs Lions LIVE scores.

The Lions will face arguably their toughest test in the URC to date when they head off to the RDS Arena to meet Leinster following a disappointing start to 2022 in which they suffered four defeats on the trot.

Leinster, on the contrary, have been in fine form with eight wins in their 10 matches to date, and they will look to build on their 26-7 victory against Ospreys when they host the Lions.

Preview and team news

Lions assistant coach Ricardo Loubscher clearly expects a tough challenge against Leinster. He said: “There is a reason why Leinster is the number one team and on top of the log. They have a brilliant squad; they basically have two A teams training together, so even without their internationals they are a very strong side.

“The important thing for us is to be disciplined for 80 minutes. All the Irish teams are fit. You look at their work rate around the park. They put you under massive pressure with their defence and their kicking game.”

Leinster vs Lions

The Lions made an ideal start. Winning 38-26 at Zebre Parma in the URC’s curtain-raiser.

Jamba Ulengo scored the competition’s first try – one of five in the first half for the Lions as they raced into a 35-0 lead.

However, Ivan van Rooyen’s men were unable to maintain their blistering start to the campaign when beaten 36-13 by the Scarlets in Llanelli the following week.

Losses to Glasgow Warriors (13-9) and Ulster (26-10) followed before the Lions finally registered their second win upon their return to South Africa. Winning 37-19 against the Stormers in Cape Town.

That proved to be their only victory of the block of derbies, however, and they sit two places off the foot of the URC.
