UNIPORT confirms arrest of students involved in suspected cult clash

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has confirmed that some students were arrested by the Rivers State Police Command following a suspected cult clash on Wednesday.

However, the university management has denied reports of a student’s death during the incident.

According to Dr. Sam Kpenu, Head of Information, Publications, and Public Relations, the university promptly intervened, and normalcy was restored. Kpenu stated, “The University of Port Harcourt wishes to address recent reports regarding an incident that occurred on our campus on Wednesday. Contrary to some inaccurate media claims, no student was killed or injured in the incident.”

The arrested students are currently facing interrogation at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Port Harcourt. UNIPORT’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, oversaw the resolution of the matter and took necessary actions to restore normalcy.

The university reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards cultism, bullying, and disruptive social behavior on campus, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and safeguarding students.
