‘Umkhokha: The Curse’: Cast and crew salaries reportedly delayed

Actors and crew members of Mzansi Magic’s Umkhokha: The Curse have reportedly not been paid their October salaries.

CAST AND CREW UNPAID?

Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela reports that the cast of Umkhokha: The Curse are still waiting for their salaries.

Mphela adds that Rhythm World Productions yesterday [6 November] sent a letter to Umkhokha: The Curse cast and crew to confirm that October 2024 salaries will be delayed.

“The production company says it has cash flow challenges and will pay once they have received funds,” adds Mphela.

This comes after TimesLIVE reported in October that Umkhokha’s executive producer, Duma Ndlovu, as well as Rodney Mutsharini and Maxwell Mloyi were arrested for alleged fraud and tax evasion.

Ndlovu is currently out on R100 000 bail and is accused of defrauding the taxman of R26 million.

The South African reached out to Rhythm World Production and Mzansi Magic for a comment on Thursday, 7 November.

‘UMKHOKHA: THE CURSE’ ENDS

The Citizen confirms that Umkhokha: The Curse will not be renewed for a third season in 2025.

The publication adds the faith-based series will conclude in February 2025.

Fan-favourite actors Sphelele Luthuli, Angel Zuma, Msizi Njapha and Kwanele Mthethwa recently exited the show.

Umkhokha’s sister telenovela, My Brother’s Keeper which is also produced by Rhythm World Production has also been cancelled. It will end in April 2025.

MNet’s Director of Local Channels Shirley Adonisi reveals in a statement: “From the brilliant minds of our writers and producers to the powerful performances of our actors, these shows have brought our stories to life in a way that resonates deeply with audiences.”

“We are deeply grateful to Rhythm World Productions and the outstanding cast and crew who turned these shows into the phenomenon they have become,” adds Adonisi.
