Uhuru urges leaders to promote unity, abandon tribalism
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on Kenyan leaders to prioritize national unity and move away from divisive tribal politics.
Speaking at the consecration and installation of Bishop-Elect Monsignor Peter Kimani Ndung’u as the Catholic Bishop of Embu Diocese, the former head of state stated that Kenya can only achieve meaningful progress if leaders embrace togetherness.
“Tuombee nchi yetu. Tuombee amani na uwiano kati ya viongozi na wananchi. Tuwache mambo ya ukabila na tupendane. Sisi wote ni Wakenya,” he said
He warned against the dangers of divisive politics and urged leaders to pay attention to the desires and needs of ordinary citizens.
“Kenya haiwezi kufaulu watu wakiwa wametengana, kutupiana maneno na kukoseana heshima. Viongozi mheshimu wananchi na watarudisha hiyo heshima,”stated Uhuru
As a retired head of state, he disclosed that he has been closely following events in the country but expressed hope that the country will remain on the right path.
“Siku hizi mimi sina story mingi. Mimi naangalianga tu TV na kuskia redio tu,” he said
