Ugandan, Ethiopian Engineering Companies Embrace Partnerships for Improved Infrastructural Dev’t

Engineers from various parts of Africa especially Ethiopia and East African region have been asked to think of forming partnerships through which they can improve upon their capacity to handle mega infrastructure projects which are currently being managed by foreign countries in a many Africa states.

During a virtual meeting organized by the Ethiopian Embassy in Kampala between Ethiopian Engineers and Uganda National Association of Building and Civil Contractors (UNABCEC), the participants noted that infrastructure development takes a lion’s share on many African Countries’ budget but unfortunately the contracts are given to European and Asian companies.

Her Excellence Alemtsehay Meseret, the Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda, asked African Engineers to be welcoming to their colleagues from other countries saying it’s one way of learning from each other.

“African countries like Ethiopia and other East African countries can combine knowledge and resources to build capacity. Once this is done then we can come up with a well established company that can handle all mega projects in African states or even abroad,” Meseret said.

She called upon Ugandan Companies willing to partner with Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation to make the necessary interactions.

Jamesone Olanya, the President of Uganda National Association of Building and Civil Contractors, applauded the Ethiopian Government for having created a window for Ugandan Companies to partner with them to improve infrastructure development.

“We as the Association are grateful for this opportunity and we promise to recommend our members with a clean record to take up that opportunity. We know that we can’t have everything written on the wall outside but I know that as we walk in, we shall know it all,” Olanya stated.

Eng Yonas Ayalew, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ethiopian Construction works Corporation and the President of the Ethiopian Civil Engineers Association expressed readiness  to work together with Ugandan construction sector to bolster development.
