Uganda secure rights to host 2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship

Uganda has been handed rights to host this year’s Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Women’s Championship.

The development was reached on at CECAFA’s Annual General Assembly convened on Friday 25 February at the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel in Arusha, Tanzania.

The Assembly which was attended by all CECAFA members, except Kenya that was previously banned by FIFA, accepted that Uganda will host the Championship with the dates to be announced later.

“While the Assembly agreed that a criteria for members planning to host be drawn for the other six tournaments planned for the year, Uganda made it clear they were ready to host the Women’s Senior Championship,” partly read a statement from CECAFA.

It added, “Moses Hassim Magogo, President of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) said since Burundi and Uganda had qualified from the Zone to play at the Women’s AFCON 2022 in Morocco, they were ready and willing to host the regional event which would help to polish the two teams.”

Djibouti was meant to host the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship last December, but pulled out because the national Stadium was undergoing renovation.

The dates for the regional tournament will be communicated in the due course.

Uganda last hosted the Championship in 2016 before Tanzania clinched the crown
