Striker Juma Balinya scored the priceless goal that guided Police to the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16 past Gaddafi (1-0) at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo on Friday.

Balinya pounced on a lose ball from point blank range after Gaddafi’s backline fumbled to clear away substitute Muwada Mawejje’s headed across the goal mouth.

It was Reuben Kimera’s corner kick that met Mawejje at the extra end of the goal post. The winger then headed the across the goal, the visitors scrambled to clear the danger before Balinya quickly reacted to tap home after 63 minutes.

The Soldier Boyz had glorious chances that could have changed results. Richard Basangwa had his header cleared off the line from a Yunus Sibira corner.

Umar Kyeyune failed to make Sibira’s well laid pass count whereas Basangwa, (on loan from Vipers) had his thunderbolt raze off the close bar as the round of 32 clash approached the end.

Defender Eric Ssenjobe did a commendable job at the heart of Police defense to tame any threats as the Cops held nerves for the much needed win.

Police joins UPDF, Wakiso Giants, Onduparaka, Kataka, Tipsa, Mbale Heroes, Iganga Young, Bright Stars, BUL FC, Maroons and Ndejje University.
