UCC Raises Concern Over Inappropriate Media Content, Issues Stern Warning
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has expressed concern over the growing trend of inappropriate content being aired across various media platforms, including television, radio, and online channels.
The Commission has flagged content, particularly in music videos, interviews, and song lyrics, as being offensive, obscene, and indecent.
Instances highlighted by the UCC include performers engaging in sexually suggestive dances and songs that promote inappropriate messages. According to the Commission, such content violates the Minimum Broadcasting Standards outlined in the Uganda Communications Act of 2013.

These standards require broadcasters to ensure that all aired programs align with public morality and adhere to the law. Additionally, any content intended for adult audiences must be aired during appropriate times.
Despite several warnings, some broadcasters continue to disregard these regulations. As a result, the UCC has issued a reminder to all media houses to classify their content with the Media Council before broadcasting, as mandated by the Press and Journalist Act.
Hon. Nyombi Thembo, the Executive Director of UCC, emphasized that all television and radio stations, along with online platforms, must comply with these standards.
He warned that failure to do so would result in serious consequences, including suspensions, fines, or even the revocation of broadcasting licenses.
