Two-storey building collapses in Delta

A two-storey building under construction, weekend, collapsed at Okpanam community, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State. 

The incident which occurred at Daily Independent Street, Okpanam during the morning downpour, threw the residents of the area into confusion.

No casualties were recorded during the incident.

Sources said some workers who were trapped in the building were rescued as search for others continued.

A source who craved anonymity, said some of the workers were injured in the course of jumping from the second decking to escape being trapped while others escaped unhurt.

The source said the injured victims were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

The source said: “The workers have all deserted the site while the site engineer is said to have taken to his heels to escape arrest and anger of the residents around.

“One of the victims who was trapped inside the rubble called from inside and the rescue team luckily located him and others”.

Meanwhile, an official of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, who identified himself as John said “Our men are on the ground to help in the rescue mission.”
