Two charged for burning down Kikuyu NG-CDF offices

Two people linked to the fire that razed down the Kikuyu NG-CDF offices valued at Ksh 20 million have been charged.

The two, identified as Naftary David Njama Gatuota, Joseph Kuru Waweru and others not before court are accused of having taken part in the setting on fire of the offices during the anti-Finance Bill protests last week Tuesday.

A statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the two will be charged with the offenses of Arson and Malicious damage to property.

According to the DCI, also damaged during protests include a vehicle belonging to Kikuyu NG-CDF valued at Ksh 2.5 million and the office of Kikuyu Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner valued at Ksh 600,000 were damaged.

“The two individuals who unsuccessfully vied for elective posts during the 2022 elections denied all the three counts and were released on Ksh 1 Million bond with a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh 200,000,” said the DCI through a statement on their X platform.
