True or false: Will Drake really rap up Konka, where R20k will get you in?

Soweto’s hot “millionaire’s playground” Konka has hosted several of Mzansi’s top artists. The likes of DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Cassper Nyovest and AKA have all taken to the Konka stage to wow the crowds.

Fans were stunned to hear that the popular nightclub would be bringing Grammy award-winning rapper Drake all the way to South Africa. The official Konka social media account however quickly shut down the rumours, but at least gave fans a glimmer of hope for the future by saying: “One day is one day”.

A fake Konka Facebook page with over 50 000 followers claimed on Tuesday 25 January that the club would be bringing Drake — who released his sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy last year — to South Africa in March.

The page claimed that the event will take place on 10 March and entry for the performance would be R20 000 per person while a VIP ticket would set you back R30 000.

“It’s gonna be a lifetime experience,” wrote the page.

Taking to Twitter, the official Konka page, which boasts more than 60 000 followers, slammed rumours they would be bringing Drake to Mzansi.

“Scam Alert!! Fake News!! Mara one day is one day,” wrote the nightclub.

Reacting to the news, one tweep wrote: “Knew it was fake when I saw the entry price”.

“Ohhh alright its fake news,” wrote another tweep.

Drake and South African DJ and producer Black Coffee collaborated on the Canadian rapper’s track Get It Together in 2018. The track heavily sampled Black Coffee’s hit Superman featuring songstress Bucie.

The two Grammy-nominated artists have been spotted together at Turks and Caicos islands in the Bahamas along with Drake’s producer Noah “40” Shebib. Does this mean we could be expect another collaboration between the two greats soon?

The island photos were posted on Twitter by entertainment blogger Musa Khawula on Thursday 20 January.

Black Coffee meets up with Drake’s record producer Noah James Shebib better known as 40 at Turks and Caicos Islands (Bahamas).

Drake is also with Black Coffee on the Island, working on new music.
