The biggest sporting reason footballers play the game is to win trophies. It is indeed the best thing that can happen to a footballer, for it does not come easy at all.
The reason for the foregoing is not difficult to discern. There have been great players who have not been able to lift their desired trophies because of one factor or the other ranging from club level, consistency level, mentality level, and so on.
On the flip side, some football players are quite successful. Their trophy cabinet is laden with every trophy possible – from club and international competitions.
This article shall examine the top 10 footballers who have won the most trophies.
Top 10 football players with the most trophies in the sport
10. Ryan Giggs (34 trophies)
Welsh player Ryan Giggs is the most decorated player to have ever played for Manchester United. It is also honourable to mention that the midfielder is the only player who has accumulated several trophies while playing majorly in England.
9. Cristiano Ronaldo (35 trophies)

From Portugal to England to Spain to Italy, to England again, before finally settling down in Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo has reached the pinnacle of football with his array of trophies. He even has the highest number of goals in football history across Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United (2x), Real Madrid, Juventus, Al-Nassr, and Portugal.
Ronaldo currently plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
8. Gérard Pique (37 trophies)
Gérard Pique won trophies for Manchester United, Barcelona, and the Spanish national team. He was widely regarded as one of the best central defenders to ever play the game. He was part of the Barcelona squad that dominated Europe for the last decade and a half.
Gérard Pique now runs a football club and academy.
7. Maxwell (37 trophies)
Maxwell is a Brazilian who played for Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan team before joining Pep Guardiola’s team back then. During the time he retired, Maxwell was the only European who was most decorated.
6. Andres Iniesta (37 trophies)
Together with Gérard Pique, Iniesta was an integral part of Barcelona’s dominance during Pep Guardiola’s era. There are no words to describe Iniesta’s brilliance in the middle of the park, and this resulted in a slew of trophies for Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
He currently plays for Japanese side Vissel Kobe.
5. Sergio Busquets (37 trophies)
Sleek and skillful, Busquets would go down as one of the world’s most underrated defensive midfielders, doing his thing without even breaking a sweat. The Spaniard left Barcelona in 2022 and went to join fellow teammate, Lionel Messi, at Inter Miami, where he still bosses the midfield.
4. Housam Ashour ( 39 trophies)
Surprised, yeah? Absolutely. Housam’s name cannot be omitted from this list because of how much effort he put into winning trophies for his club.
After making his Al-Ahly debut in 2003, the defensive midfielder helped the team win 39 titles in the next 17 years. In 2020, he moved to Al Ittihad for the last two years of his career, although he was trophy-less.
3. Housam Hassan (41 trophies)
Another surprise inclusion – but almost same name. Just like Ashour, Hassan was an integral figure for the Egyptian side, Al-Ahly.
The once-productive striker holds the distinction of being Egypt’s record goalscorer as well as its most decorated player. Throughout his career, the 57-year-old won 14 Egyptian Premier League championships and three African Cup of Nations titles.
2. Dani Alves (43 trophies)
Dani Alves was like Midas; everything he touched turned to gold. He was literally a winner, albeit without much fuss (or struggle). The Brazilian was also part of the Barcelona that dominated Europe, alongside Iniesta, Busquets, Pique, and Lionel Messi. Alves left Barcelona for PSG, then to Juventus before finally ending up in Corinthians in Brazil.
1. Lionel Messi (45 trophies)
Messi topping this list isn’t a surprise. The Argentine claimed his spot at the peak of the game after he won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022. This victory came after he won the Copa America and the Finalisimma a year before with the national team.
Messi has won numerous league titles, four Champions League and a trophy with his new club, Inter Miami.
