TMPD boss: ‘The officer actually did something good’
Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) account chief, Yolande Faro responds to viral video of a metro cop allegedly extorting money from a woman.
The video shared by social media user @keletsosss shows a metro cop transporting a woman to withdraw cash.
The officer says in the video: “When you get to the ATM, I want you to take out the money. Don’t even take five minutes at the ATM.”
The viral video resulted in the TMPD investigating a case of the alleged bribery.
TMPD BOSS: ‘IT WAS NOT EXTORTION’
TimesLIVE reports that the TMPD boss Yolande Faro revealed to the media on Thursday, 7 November that the woman who filmed the metro cop has dismissed claims of bribery.
“The complainant gave a statement to say it was not extortion. She was actually stuck and needed to stop the metro police to assist her to take her to an ATM to withdraw money for the tow truck driver. She even made a video which I am in possession of,” said Faro.
Faro adds that the woman also revealed that she’s a content creator and created the video for social media.
The TMPD has statements from her, where she said it was not extortion, and she did it for content.
“The officer actually did something good, assisting somebody when she needed assistance and wanted now to have content and make sure that it goes on social media.”
Fare admits that the situation makes them furious. Instead of them investigating other crime allegations, they now had to put a lot of resources in this complaint.
The TMPD boss also reveals they will continue to thoroughly investigate the matter despite the complainant’s retraction.
“We will definitely look into the matter, and we do not rule out that cases may be registered against the alleged complainant,” she said.
