Tinubu Set to Improve Nigeria’s Healthcare and Delivery (Part 2)
Let’s get real: Healthcare in Nigeria is broken. Everyone knows it – You know it and I know it. Every medical personnel who came into this field with a desire to care for others, knows this to be undeniably true. We feel it every day when we enter our clinics, hospitals, and practices.
Day after day, millions of patients go to hospitals, and other healthcare facilities to address issues related to their physical, emotional, and mental health. More often than not, they are met with indifference. It’s time for the government to give adequate attention to healthcare delivery in Nigeria as it is an integral process in the building of a healthy society.
The presidential candidate for the All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to improve the nation’s healthcare infrastructure. He admits that the healthcare sector of the country is in shambles when it comes to the equipment, infrastructure, and working conditions of health workers.
Bola Tinubu says he intends to bring about this transformation by collaborating with States and Local Governments to create a new network of local clinics and dispensaries providing primary health care and drugs for citizens.
He has given assurance that if elected, his administration will increase the proportion of the annual budget dedicated to health care. He acknowledges that Nigeria has the brains in health but requires more motivation in the form of remuneration and provision of resources to perform at their best. For a fact, our medical practitioners are no doubt recognized as one of the best in the world.
He promises to address the issue of healthcare workers migrating out of Nigeria to other parts of the world where they are more appreciated. According to his manifesto, he says he will embark on special programs to upgrade the quality of all Federal Government Hospitals to world-class standards.
Consequently, a ban will be imposed on medical tourism for all categories of public officers to ensure no one travels abroad for any form of medical treatment. No more will the rich travel abroad for qualitative medical care while leaving behind the poor to deal with our dilapidated health system and infrastructure. He is also set to revive and relaunch the National Health Insurance Scheme and provide health insurance cover for most Nigerians.
As the presidential election draws near, all Nigerians are encouraged to be wise with their votes and bring into power a man who is set to bring about all-around development to Nigeria. Tinubu no doubt has all it takes to bring about the change that the nation needs.
