Time to retire? Rasta’s Connie Chiume portrait upsets fans

Rasta, the artist, has done it again after he unveiled a less-than-impressive celebrity portrait, this time of beloved actress Connie Chiume.

The veteran actress died last week following a “medical procedure” at the Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg.

She was 72 years old.

Chiume’s funeral service took place on Thursday, 15 August, at the Oasis of Life Family Church in Daveyton.

RASTA REVEALS CONNIE CHIUME PORTRAIT

On X, a clip of Rasta –  real name Lebani Sirenje – painting a portrait of actress Connie Chiume at her funeral service had social media users up in arms.

The Zimbabwean artist is known for his questionable artworks of late celebrities, including Zahara, AKA, and Deborah Frasier.

According to tweeps, the painting looked nothing like the screen star.

@renei_Nay: “This man must be deported now.”

@MosaseTumelo: “It’s no longer funny”

@Merc_05: “Arrest him immediately. What is this?”

In December, Rasta made headlines after tweeps claimed former Minister of Sports, Art and Culture Zizi Kodwa had “warned” him about his work. The controversial painter had produced several portraits of the late singer at her funeral service.

Gauteng Premier Penyaza Lesufi tweeted: “The Minister @zizikodwa is seriously engaging Rasta on the sidelines about his drawings of Zahara.”

TRIBUTE FOR TATJANA?

Rasta’s portrait of Connie Chiume comes days after he showed off a picture of Olympic swimmer Tatjana Smith.

The artist showed off his work following Tatjana’s return at OR Tambo this week following her stint at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

He tweeted: “Welcome, Golden Girl. Mrs Tatjana Smith, you made South Africa proud; well done”.
