The Hawks arrested a 39-year-old woman for conspiracy to commit murder and fraud on Wednesday, 15 September, after they received a tip-off that she allegedly contracted a hitman to kill her husband. The couple are reportedly in the midst of divorce when the suspect decided to have him killed.
HAWKS ARREST WOMAN FOR HIRING HITMAN
A Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said the suspect – Mbalenhle Xaba – allegedly hired a hitman to kill her husband in Estcourt, KZN. The suspect reportedly decided to have her husband killed while they were in the process of filing divorce papers.
“In November 2020, Xaba allegedly bought a motor vehicle and handed it over to the hired hitman as payment,” said the police spokesperson. “The said hitman did not execute the hit, as a result, Xaba demanded the vehicle back in order to give it to another hitman.”
The matter was eventually reported to the Hawk and an intensive investigation was conducted, which led to Xaba’s arrest on Wednesday.
She made an appearance before the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where she faced charges of conspiracy to commit murder and fraud. Xaba was remanded in custody. Her next court appearance is expected to take place on Tuesday, 21 September, according to the Hawks.
